Tweeters Gonna Tweet

Authentic headline, I know. I really can't even tell you what I meant by it. It just was the first thing that popped in my head. Anyways, if you haven't guessed what this blog post is about yet - look no further!
It's about Twitter. And why I don't use it. I actually despise it quite frankly. Funny, because I LOVE social media. I love a lot of aspects about engaging with one another, but Twitter isn't my choice of platform to do so. When I had Twitter (maybe 3 years ago?) I found myself uncontrollably scrolling to catch up with every last tweet. I found myself composing a tweet and thinking way too hard over what would be funny/retweetable/favorited. Not really because I cared what people thought of me, but wanted my tweets to match my personality and my perception of who I was. I have a pretty dry, sarcastic humor, so I wanted to convey that through my tweets. Maybe I overthink things too much? I don't know, probably. But it was actually quite stressful.
I remember thinking that some tweets people claimed to be there's, I actually saw on someone else's feed a week ago. It just didn't make sense. I saw it all the time - where was the authenticity?
Then there's the part of Twitter that is the most toxic - disagreeing on the political spectrum. Now, I do not wish to get into politics in my blogs (if you want to hear my personal opinions, on those, I'd love to sit and have a conversation with you). I think everyone has a right to voice their opinion - but from what I've learned - the. negativity. is. real.
On both sides.
We may not agree on all things politics, but I believe Twitter and other forms of social media are not the place to blame, assume, and out right put down our peers just because of their political beliefs. As much as I don't want to say it, our world has become more divided by us thinking our opinions are politically correct. The older I've gotten, the more I've gotten into politics. Honestly, it's quite insane how much my life has been consumed by politics lately. But - hey, that don't change a thing about the way I'm going to speak to every person I meet.
I just took a moment to re-read this post and I'm feeling like it's pretty negative, sorry Twitter. I think it's just because I'm more a visual person and pictures are what change my mind or influence me. If you are a tweeter, I give you kudos! You are probably out there thriving, and reading funnny things I'm missing out on. But I just needed to get my opinion out there. It just isn't for me. Yes - I know I can follow whom I want to follow, but I just find it best to save the "140 characters" for actual conversations and meaningful discussions to back up my beliefs or ideas. It's easy to judge, easy to be negative, and easy to be be biased.
Althought I'm not on the Twitter game, my only hope for you is to be kind with your tweets, be hilarious, be contagious, be a role-model. Retweet the crap out of a kind tweet for me, okay?
Adios.
